West Ham United boss David Moyes says that Declan Rice will benefit from the criticism that he has received after a mistake against Arsenal.

West Ham United boss David Moyes has maintained that he was right to criticise Declan Rice for a mistake made against Arsenal last weekend.

With the game level at 1-1 and just eight minutes remaining, Rice opted to allow a cross to go through to Joe Hart - rather than head the ball clear - and Aaron Ramsey's delivery found the far corner.

The Hammers eventually succumbed to a 4-1 defeat and Moyes strongly criticised the decision-making of the youngster, but the Scot feels that the academy graduate will benefit from the experience.

At a press conference, the 55-year-old told reporters: "It's part of football, you can't always be getting a pat on the back.

"If you make mistakes then you'll be told, it was a poor decision at the time but it's out of the way now, we're over it, Dec accepted it as well and you hope in the long term he gets better from it."

Rice is likely to pen a new contract at the London Stadium in the coming weeks.
