Phil Neville: 'I want a head coach role'

Former Manchester United and Everton defender Phil Neville suggests that he would like a role as a head coach in the near future, having coached at United and Valencia.

Former Manchester United and Everton defender Phil Neville has suggested that he would like a role as a head coach in the future.

The 38-year-old is currently assistant manager at Spanish side Valencia, having previously coached under David Moyes at United, and the former Toffees captain insists that he would like a more senior role in the near future.

"This feels like my last year at university," Neville told the Daily Mail. "The final bit of learning and experience I need. Now I am reaching the point where I would like to be a number one.

"My passion is coaching and I see myself more as a head coach with a more continental approach, in charge of football, running the training programme, the players.

"People always view United negatively, but from a purely selfish point of view it wasn't negative. Coaching-wise, it gave me everything I wanted. I was working with some of the world's best players. I learnt so much. Now I am learning in a different environment."

Neville made 59 international appearances for England.
