Tim Henman picks Rafael Nadal for US Open

Tim Henman picks Rafael Nadal as the favourite ahead of next week's US Open.

Former British number one Tim Henman has said that Rafael Nadal will be the man to beat at Flushing Meadows.

The Spaniard recently added the Cincinnati Open to the eight titles he had already captured since returning from a long-term knee problem earlier this year.

Despite early exits in Montreal and Cincinnati, Henman believes that defending champion Andy Murray still has a "great chance" of winning a third Grand Slam title.

However, the 38-year-old said that Nadal has to be considered ahead of the Scot and world number one Novak Djokovic.

"Andy has had a little bit of a slow start on the hard courts but he is there as defending champion and has got a great chance of adding another Slam to his CV," Eurosport quotes Henman as saying.

"Now he has got two Slams I definitely see him going on and adding more because he is that good - I think this is his time. Djokovic, Murray and Nadal I definitely see dominating the majors in years to come.

"But I would probably say Nadal is the favourite for the US Open right now. He is not number one in the world but he is the best player in the world this year - it is phenomenal he has only lost three matches. I would probably give him the edge, but Djokovic and Murray will not be far behind."

The US Open gets underway next week.
