Luis Suarez confident of World Cup fitness

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez reveals that he expects to play in his side's World Cup campaign despite sustaining a meniscus knee injury two weeks ago.

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has expressed his belief that he will be fit in time for his side's World Cup campaign.

The 27-year-old was a doubt to play in the tournament after sustaining a knee injury at the end of the Premier League season, which required an operation two weeks ago.

However, Suarez insists that he always believed in his ability to recover in time for the competition despite bleak reports about his prognosis.

He told reporters: "Emotionally, I've felt fine; psychologically, I've been spectacular. At no time did I feel pressured.

"At no time have I felt sad because at no point did I think there was a chance of me missing the World Cup. The thought never went through my mind.

"I could have really cried because of this injury but I didn't, because I knew. I knew. When the doctor first spoke to me three little tears fell, but no more. My wife said, 'I can't believe how strong you're being' but I knew I'd make it."

Uruguay begin their World Cup campaign against Costa Rica on Saturday.
