Garry Monk: 'Still plenty for Swansea City to play for'

Garry Monk insists that Swansea City remain 'focused' on trying to win as many games as possible between now and the end of the season after reaching the 40-point mark.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk is confident that his players will remain motivated to continue winning points in order to avoid their season spiralling out of control.

Back-to-back victories over Manchester United and Burnley have lifted the Swans to the 40-point mark for the campaign, which is often seen as enough to guarantee survival in the Premier League.

However, the Welsh outfit reached the same tally after 28 games two years ago under former boss Michael Laudrup, only to pick up just six more points in their final 10 games.

Monk is not fazed by this, though, telling reporters: "It's not a concern the players will down tools. I think you have seen in the last two performances that the focus has been there. Where we're at, and the history of where we are, we will win games and lose games.

"That will be the case in the 11 games coming up but our focus is on trying to win as many as possible and get as many points as possible and not just settle for what we have got. We are safe which is great, but you want more than that and this group of players want more than that."

Swansea, who are currently eighth in the league table, return to action this evening when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.
