Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio is adamant that his side have pulled off a miracle by picking up eight points from his first six games in charge.
The Black Cats were pegged back against Southampton on Sunday and were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light.
The results leaves Sunderland four points clear of the relegation zone with a game to play despite having played a match more than Wigan Athletic, but Di Canio remains positive about his side's survival chances.
"I have been part of this environment for five weeks and eight points in six games, in this situation, the players have performed a miracle, for me," Di Canio told ESPN.
"Eight points, I would sign now. I am discovering every day what is going on and eight points, I would sign.
"Before I signed a contract with the club, I would have signed for eight points from six games straight away, so the lads have done an amazing job."
Sunderland travel to Tottenham Hotspur in their final match of the season.
