Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill admits his surprise at the club's successful end to the season.

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill has admitted that he is surprised by the club's successful end to the season.

The Black Cats have lost just four of the 19 games for which O'Neill has been in charge, and he has also revealed his delight at their run in the FA Cup.

"I wouldn't have envisaged us being even in the semi-final draw, for what it's worth. We still obviously haven't passed the quarter-final stage, but to be actually in a semi-final draw and at least to know who you might play if there was a possibility of getting through," O'Neill told The Mirror.

"But more importantly than that, the number of points we have been able to accumulate, I wouldn't have envisaged that at all."

Sunderland sit ninth in the Premier League table with ten games to play.
