Stoke City boss Mark Hughes wants permanent deal for goalkeeper Lee Grant

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes says that he wants to sign goalkeeper Lee Grant on a permanent deal when his loan from Derby County expires at the end of the season.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has confirmed that the club will try to turn goalkeeper Lee Grant's temporary stay into a permanent one.

The 33-year-old joined the Premier League outfit from Derby County on a season-long loan in the summer, and due to a long-term injury to Jack Butland he was given a chance to impress at the top level.

The shot-stopper has done just that, and Hughes wants to keep him beyond this season.

"We would like him to stay," Hughes told reporters in Friday's press conference. "He's done exceptionally well, we are delighted he's been able to do that.

"It's not easy when you come into a new club. It was a shot to nothing for him. He thought it was a good opportunity and he's grabbed it with both hands - literally. I think, as we speak, we are talking to Derby and we would like something to happen."

Grant returned to Derby in 2013 from Burnley on a three-year contract.
