Robert Huth believes that Stoke City teammate Ryan Shawcross should be given a chance in the England team following John Terry's retirement from international football.

Stoke City defender Robert Huth believes that his teammate Ryan Shawcross can fill the boots of John Terry in the England set-up.

The 31-year-old Chelsea captain announced his shock retirement from international football yesterday, a day before undergoing a hearing with the Football Association on a charge of improper conduct.

Huth said on Twitter: "Wonder if Shawcross will get a chance now? My opinion, he should. Fast, good in the air and reads the game well."

The 24-year-old has two caps at England Under-21 level.
