Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Scottish Premiership clash between St Mirren and St Johnstone, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

St Mirren have slipped down to seventh in the Premiership table following two losses in a row and will be looking to get back to winning ways on home soil.

The Buddies have enjoyed some remarkable form at the SMISA Stadium this campaign, winning five, drawing one and losing one of their seven matches under Stephen Robinson.

Nevertheless, their away form has not yielded the same results, which will come as a disappointment. In their last two fixtures, St Mirren have suffered two defeats in a row to Hibernian and Ross County, conceding six goals in the process.

They have also only taken three points from 18 available away from home, which will need to improve in the long run if they are to compete for continental qualification this season.

Fortunately for Robinson, St Mirren returning home against St Johnstone will inspire some confidence that they can claim another three points in the Scottish Premiership.

St Johnstone moved up to sixth in the league table last weekend, thanks to an outstanding 2-1 triumph over Rangers that won plaudits from many within Scottish football circles.

James Brown opened the scoring with a stunning effort just before the interval for the Saints, before a Nicky Clark strike on 62 minutes secured the points despite a reply from Rangers captain James Tavernier.

Callum Davidson's side have hit form at a good time, winning their last three games in a row, and they will fancy their chances of claiming another victory at the SMISA Stadium on Wednesday.

A mixture of defensive quality and attacking prowess has been the key to their resurgence over the last few weeks, as St Johnstone have been able to sit in when needed and counter efficiently, culminating in consistent performances and results.

Davidson will be excited to see if his side can repeat the trick on Wednesday and claim a win at a difficult away venue.
