Mauricio Pochettino expects Tottenham Hotspur to spend late in transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino says that fans should expect some late movement from the club in the transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that the club will make late signings just before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

The North London outfit are the only club out of last season's top seven that have not bought any new players this summer.

The majority of those teams have spent more than £100m on recruits, while Manchester City have surpassed the £200m mark, partly due to the acquisition of Tottenham's Kyle Walker, who cost an initial £50m but could rise to £53m.

When asked about transfers during the Premier League launch, Pochettino told Sky Sports News: "We need players who can challenge our starting XI, players who believe in themselves and think 'Okay, I can challenge Dele Alli, I can challenge Harry Kane.

"We need to bring new energy and strengthen our squad, everyone knows that. If you look at the history of Tottenham in the last few years, we always spend at the end of the window.

"Chairman Daniel Levy is working hard with the chief scout (Steve Hitchen), we are working hard to deliver and try to add the strength we need to fight in four competitions next season.

"The market is a little bit crazy but you cannot stop the evolution of football. It is not easy to improve, but we will find the right players to challenge."

Tottenham will begin the new Premier League season with an away match against Newcastle United on Sunday.
