Harry Redknapp says that incidents in the Premier League this weekend highlight the need for two on-pitch referees.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has said that a string of incidents in the Premier League this weekend have illustrated the need for two on-pitch referees.

Redknapp was vocal in his disagreement with calls made by referee Chris Foy in Spurs' 2-1 defeat to Stoke, and there were also talking points in Chelsea's win over Manchester City and Blackburn's match against Sunderland.

"This could make me just about the most unpopular manager among my colleagues in the Premier League, but I reckon it might be a good idea to have not one but two referees in every match," Redknapp wrote in his column for The Sun.

"Last weekend was full of controversial incidents in the Premier League. It seems hardly a week goes by when referees and managers' reactions are not creating headlines and friction in the game.

"If we had two referees on one pitch, perhaps one in each half, surely it would cut the risk of getting a big decision wrong by 50%."

FIFA president Sepp Blatter said recently that goal-line technology could be introduced to world football from next season.
