Emanuele Giaccherini: 'We showed great spirit'

Sunderland winger Emanuele Giaccherini feels that he and his teammates showed good character to earn a point from their clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Sunderland winger Emanuele Giaccherini believes that his side showed great "spirit" to twice come from behind to earn a point in their Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Spurs took the lead in the second minute of the game through Nacer Chadli, but the Black Cats hit back at the Stadium of Light through Adam Johnson.

In the second half, the visitors went ahead again courtesy of Christian Eriksen's close-range strike, but a late own goal from Harry Kane helped Gus Poyet's side earn their share of the spoils.

Giaccherini told the club's official website: "I'm very happy after that performance; I think it's a great point for us as Tottenham are a very good side. They have very experienced players in their side and I think we did well against them.

"It was unlucky to concede so early in the game but we showed good spirit to pull one back within two minutes, it was a great goal from Adam [Johnson] – and then we did exactly the same in the second half."

Sunderland are 14th in the Premier League after four winless matches this season.
