Maya Yoshida never considered Southampton departure

Japanese defender Maya Yoshida says that he never thought about leaving Southampton last month.

Southampton defender Maya Yoshida has insisted that he never had any intention of leaving the club during last month's transfer window.

The 25-year-old has spent large parts of the campaign among the substitutes, with manager Mauricio Pochettino having often preferred Jose Fonte and Dejan Lovren as a centre-back partnership.

However, despite his limited appearances, Yoshida has revealed that he is still committed to the Saints.

"I did not think about leaving. My dream is to play in the Premier League and have success here. Why would I play half a season then go to another club or another country. That's crazy," he told the Daily Star.

Yoshida joined Southampton from VVV-Venlo in 2012.
