Southampton complete the signing of 40-year-old goalkeeper Willy Caballero on a free transfer.

Southampton have completed the signing of 40-year-old goalkeeper Willy Caballero on a free transfer.

The former Manchester City and Chelsea stopper completed his medical at the club's training ground earlier on Monday before signing a short-term deal until January 5.

Caballero's arrival comes after the Saints announced that first-choice goalkeepers Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster are both suffering with injuries, with academy graduate Harry Lewis representing Ralph Hasenhuttl's only senior option between the sticks.

The Argentina international will now join up with his new teammates ahead of Southampton's Premier League clash at home against Arsenal on Saturday.

Caballero left Chelsea last summer after four years at Stamford Bridge, where me made a total of 38 appearances across all competitions.

The veteran goalkeeper has won nine major honours across his 20-year professional career, including success in the Champions League, the Europa League, the FA Cup and the League Cup.
