Southampton's Jay Rodriguez targets England place for Euro 2016

Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez sets his sights on earning a recall into the England squad for Euro 2016 after over a year on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez has targeted a place in the England squad for Euro 2016 as he steps up his recovery from a serious knee injury.

The 25-year-old sustained a torn ACL back in March 2014, which ruled him out of the World Cup and the entire 2014-15 campaign.

However, Rodriguez is now back to fitness after scoring twice for Ronald Koeman's men in their pre-season defeat to RB Leipzig, and the forward is now relishing the season ahead to rebuild his career.

He is quoted as saying by The Mirror: "As a player, you always want to play international level. So, obviously, I want to try to become the player I was, and obviously try to push my way back into the team.

"It's just a case of, first thing, playing well and feeling good in myself in the games and then hopefully something will happen.

"I have my own personal goals that I want to achieve. I always set myself a goal at the start of the season and I will just obviously stick to that, but, like I said, my main aim is to always keep improving."

Rodriguez made one appearance for the Three Lions in 2013.
