Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray bemoans refereeing decision

Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray insists that Wigan Athletic's Ali Al-Habsi should have been sent off when the side's met in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray has insisted that Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi should have been sent off during the Championship clash between the two sides.

The Latics stopper gave away a penalty when he felled Jacques Maghoma in the area, but was shown only a yellow card for the foul.

Al-Habsi then saved Leon Best's resultant penalty, helping Wigan to a 1-0 win.

"It was definitely a red card, definitely," Gray told reporters. "I was thinking we had a penalty, against a substitute goalkeeper, and I couldn't believe it when the yellow card came out.

"Jacques Maghoma has got the ball, he's gone round the goalkeeper and he's wiped him out. I was amazed when he only got a yellow, and then he pulls off a save that stops us from taking the lead.

"We shouldn't be missing penalties, but I'm just disappointed because the game would definitely have changed had we been playing against 10 men."

The result moves Wigan up to seventh place in the table, while Wednesday remain in 17th.
