Preview: Wigan Athletic vs. Sheffield Wednesday

Sports Mole peers ahead to the Championship encounter between Wigan Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday in two days' time.

Wigan Athletic will have to refocus on their push for the Championship's playoffs when they host Sheffield Wednesday following their FA Cup heroics at Manchester City.

The Latics emulated last year's heroics in the final by shocking City at the Etihad in Sunday's quarter-final, and the effort put in should see a number of changes on Wednesday night.

As well as their extraordinary run in the FA Cup, Wigan have also won four games in a row in the league to climb to within a few goals of the top six.

Uwe Rosler can welcome back Nicky Maynard, Martyn Waghorn and Ryan Tunniclife against the Owls while Ali Al-Habsi should return for Scott Carson in goal.

Visitors Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, had their two-game winning streak ended at lowly Yeovil Town on Saturday, and Stuart Gray will be unable to name Sam Hutchinson in his lineup after he was sent off at Huish Park.

Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland missed the game with a calf injury and is a doubt for Wednesday's trip to the DW Stadium.

Up front, Benik Afobe and Atdhe Nuhiu will both hope for a start either alongside or instead of Leon Best after the scoreless trip to Yeovil.

These two last met just a month ago when Wigan comfortably beat the Owls 3-0 to start their current six-game winning streak in all competitions.
