Callum Paterson gets Scotland call

Hearts defender Callum Paterson gets drafted into the Scotland squad to cover Phil Bardsley ahead of Friday's Euro 2016 qualifier with Ireland.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has handed a call-up to Hearts defender Callum Paterson for Friday's Euro 2016 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland.

The 20-year-old comes in to replace Stoke City's Phil Bardsley, who hobbled off the field with a groin complaint in Sunday's 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Paterson, yet to be capped by Scotland's senior side, has scored once in five Scottish Premiership games for Hearts so far this season.

"As I sit here now I haven't been told for certain that Phil isn't coming. Callum Paterson is here," Strachan's assistant Mark McGhee told Sky Sports News.

Kickoff on Friday is scheduled for 7.45pm.
