Both Saint-Etienne and Marseille failed to find the net at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard this evening.
The home side controlled the majority of the opening 45 minutes, but they were unable to find a way past visiting goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.
When they did manage to beat Mandanda in the 28th minute, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's right-footed shot struck the crossbar before being cleared to safety.
Saint-Etienne began the second half brightly and went close to breaking the deadlock just one minute after the restart when Alejandro Alonso's shot from distance shaved the wrong side of the post.
Aubameyang then had another chance to put his side in front, but Mandanda reacted quickly to parry the striker's effort to safety.
It took Marseille until the hour mark to inflict some pressure on their hosts when Jordan Ayew and Loic Remy both missed chances from close range in quick succession.
The two teams both pushed forward for a winning goal in the closing stages, but neither was successful in their search.
