St Johnstone off to winning start in Scottish Premiership

Ross County suffer defeat in their opening Scottish Premiership game, falling to a 2-1 reverse at the hands of St Johnstone at Victoria Park.

St Johnstone have kicked off their Scottish Premiership campaign with a 2-1 victory against Ross County at Victoria Park.

Saints keeper Alan Mannus was called into action with 21 minutes on the clock to deny Yoann Arquin, before quickly getting back to his feet to tip the rebound over the bar.

The save proved decisive, as just under 10 minutes later Michael O'Halloran slotted a loose ball into the back of the net to put the Saints ahead.

Once more Ross County were to be denied by Mannus when he turned Graham Carey's effort onto the bar shortly before the interval.

Three minutes after the restart, Scott Brown picked out Steven MacLean whose diving head beat Antonio Reguero to give St Johnstone an important second goal.

The Staggies did manage to pull one back shortly after through Jake Jervis's header, but they were unable to find a leveller in the remaining time as Tommy Wright's men returned home with all three points.
