Francesco Totti signs two-year Roma extension

Roma tie talisman Francesco Totti down until 2016 after the captain signed a two-year contract extension.

Roma have confirmed this afternoon that Francesco Totti has signed a new contract at the Olimpico, committing the rest of his playing career to the Giallorossi in a deal that runs until 2016.

Totti signed a two-year contract extension in front of journalists at a news conference earlier today hosted by Roma president James Pallotta, who flew in from the USA to seal the deal.

The 37-year-old has insisted that he never had any intention of leaving Roma next summer, with the forward focused on helping Rudi Garcia building a winning side in Serie A.

He told reporters: "I love this club and they love me. I want to really thank the President for giving me the opportunity to keep wearing the shirt that I have always supported and always loved.

"Everyone wanted it to happen, me and the club. I have another two years on my contract, two more years of responsibility, we have a lot of work to do and I hope we do well for this American Roma."

Garcia's side have made a strong start to the campaign, winning three successive matches to set the pace alongside Napoli in Serie A.

Totti has scored once in those three games, taking his tally of goals in Serie A to 228 across 22 seasons.
