Daniele De Rossi has 'no regrets' about Roma stay

Roma striker Daniele De Rossi insists that he has no regrets about staying with the Serie A club.

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi has insisted that he has no regrets about staying with the club despite having offers from elsewhere.

The Italy international, who was linked with a move to Manchester United over the summer, is adamant that he loves Roma and the team's supporters.

"If I had gone to play elsewhere, such as Barcelona, I probably would have won more," De Rossi told Sky Sports News.

"My story is the same as [Francesco] Totti's. But then you think of the people of Rome and the love of the fans, so that thought goes."

De Rossi is expected to replace Totti as club captain when the veteran retires, but he believes that his teammate's departure will not be a cause for celebration.

"Francesco is ahead of me and to know I'll only take the armband when he retires is not a pleasing thought for me or the fans," he added. "Nobody will celebrate that day going 'Hurray, De Rossi has become the captain!'

"We will all be sad because that'll mean the best player in the history of Roma will hang up his boots.

"Besides, you don't need an armband to be happy, as it's enough for me to have my teammates see me as a friend and the fans as a symbol."

Roma take on Inter Milan in Serie A this weekend.
