Preview: Rennes vs. Brest - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Ligue 1 clash between Rennes and Brest, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Rennes will host Brest on Wednesday in their latest Ligue 1 fixture with both teams level on points so far, with only goal difference separating them in the table.

The visitors are heading into this one on the back of a heavy defeat at the weekend, which is going to be something that they want to respond to immediately.

Rennes have had mixed bag of results across their opening four games of the season, with two defeats, a draw, and a victory to kickstart their campaign.

After picking up consecutive positive results with a draw against Monaco and then a victory over Ajaccio, the squad were then left frustrated at the weekend.

Rennes were defeated 2-1 by Lens as Seko Fofana and Lois Openda scored in the second half, with Gaetan Laborde's 91st-minute goal simply being a consolation.

The squad will now have the chance to immediately get back to winning ways, and three points in midweek could see the club climb as high as fourth depending on other results.

Right now the league table is a close one, and Rennes will no doubt be hoping to finish in a European position once again.

The visitors are on the same number of points as their opponents on Wednesday night, and a victory gives them the chance to make clear progress up the table.

Brest showcased their qualities when defeating Angers 3-1 in game week three, with the squad putting together a great attacking display in that one.

However, the squad were dealt with a heavy defeat at the weekend which they will be hoping to forget about immediately after they were beaten 7-0 by Montpellier.

Brest were 5-0 down in the first half, which was 45 minutes to forget for those involved that was only made worse in the second half when Pierre Lees-Melou was sent off.

A defeat at the weekend could lead to the squad falling into the relegation zone, which is something that they will be keen to avoid, adding in some pressure for this one.

Team News

Warmed Omari is set to return to the squad soon from injury, but he might end up being an option from the bench this time around.

Laborde made a major impact as a substitute at the weekend by coming on and scoring, which might have pushed him as an option from the first whistle this time around.

Brest have several injury concerns heading into this match as Noah Fadiga is dealing with an ankle problem while Steve Mounie has a heel issue.

Romain Del Castillo has a hamstring issue while Lees-Melou will also begin his suspension following the red card he received at the weekend.

Rennes possible starting lineup:
Alemdar; Traore, Bade, Theate, Truffert; Terrier, Santamaria, Tait, Bourigeaud; Laborde, Kalimuendo

Brest possible starting lineup:
Bizot; Duverne, Dari, Chardonnet, Brassier; Magnetti, Belkebla, Dembele; Honorat, Belaili, Le Douaraon

We say: Rennes 2-0 Brest

After suffering a heavy 7-0 defeat at the weekend, Brest will be pushing to do everything possible to return to winning ways, but this could be a difficult task.

Rennes are a strong side and that is something that could lead to the picking up all three points in midweek.
