Ronaldo: 'Iker Casillas must fight for place'

Former Brazil striker Ronaldo believes that competition from Diego Lopez will benefit Iker Casillas as he attempts to reclaim his spot in the Real Madrid team.

Former Brazil striker Ronaldo is confident that Iker Casillas can reclaim his spot in the Real Madrid first XI this season.

Casillas is currently behind Diego Lopez in the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu, but Ronaldo believes that the competition will benefit Spain's number one.

"Casillas is in a delicate situation. He has not faced great competition like this before, but he is one of the best goalkeepers in history and so he has to earn his place," the Brazilian told reporters at a press conference.

"I also had Diego Lopez training alongside me [at Madrid] and he is very good. For [Carlo] Ancelotti, there is no trouble in picking between them."

Ronaldo, 37, spent five years with Madrid from 2002 to 2007.
