Real Madrid are being held to a 1-1 draw by Espanyol at the break in tonight's La Liga encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Sergio Garcia's first goal of the season on 32 minutes gave the visitors the advantage before Cristiano Ronaldo struck with seconds remaining in the half.

The home side had two early chances to get themselves in front, but Ronaldo and Luka Modric both put their efforts narrowly wide.

Madrid continued to dominate and they came within inches of finding the net on 30 minutes when Modric's shot hit the foot of the post.

However, Espanyol struck against the run of play soon after as Sergio Garcia found the bottom corner following Joan Verdu's pass.

The away side looked good value for the half-time lead, but Ronaldo tapped in Sami Khedira's cross from close range in the final stages to level the scores.
