Premier League new boys Reading are planning to offer Blackpool £2.5m for winger Matt Phillips.

Reading are said to be preparing a £2.5m bid for Blackpool winger Matt Phillips.

The 21-year-old winger had a brief loan spell at Sheffield United earlier in the season, scoring five goals in six appearance for the Blades.

He was swiftly recalled to Bloomfield Road by Tangerines boss Ian Holloway and has been one the stars of Blackpool's season.

Royals manager Brian McDermott has been monitoring Phillips' progress all season and he will now make his move for the player following Blackpool's 2-1 play-off final defeat against West Ham United, according to The Sun.

Phillips joined Blackpool from Wycombe for a £325,000 transfer fee in 2010.
