Thiago Silva: 'I had doubts about joining Paris Saint-Germain'

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva admits to having huge doubts about French football before deciding to leave AC Milan last summer.

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has admitted to having huge doubts about the standard in Ligue 1 before signing last summer.

Silva swapped Milan for the French capital along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2012, helping PSG clinch their first league title since 1994 in their debut campaign.

The Brazil international believes that French football has made huge strides in recent years, with the centre-back insisting that Ligue 1 deserves to be considered equal with Serie A in terms of quality.

He told Ligue 1's official website: "I had some pretty big doubts when I signed here. Not because of PSG, but because I was leaving AC Milan for a different type of football, what I thought was probably not as good a league.

"Today I'd say the two leagues are on par because Ligue 1 has improved a lot in recent years. This season I think French football will show the world how far it has come.

"But I had this doubt, I wasn't sure I'd made the right choice. I admit that even before we won the title I was still thinking about it. But today I know I made the right choice because I'm working with some formidable people."

The 28-year-old will continue his second season at the Parc des Princes this weekend, as Laurent Blanc's side host Ajaccio on Saturday night.
