Portsmouth are unable to breach the Bristol City goal despite a dominant performance at Fratton Park.

Rock-bottom Portsmouth have extended their winless run to nine games after a goalless draw with fellow strugglers Bristol City this afternoon.

After an uneventful opening 15 minutes David Norris threatened for the home side but saw two shots in quick succession both saved by former Pompey keeper David James.

The Robins, who are yet to score an away goal in 2012, failed to apply any real pressure to Jamie Ashdown's goal as the opening period came to a close.

Portsmouth continued their dominance after the break and new loan signing Chris Maguire provided the most potency but couldn't find a way past James.

On 65 minutes the visitors felt they should have had a penalty when Ricardo Rocha challenged Jon Stead but it was not given.

Soon after Pompey should have taken the lead but Norris scuffed his shot after neat work down the right from Maguire.

The home side pressed for a late winner but were unable to find a goal, despite spending much of the latter stages in the Robins' half.

The point sees Michael Appleton's men remain eight points adrift of safety.
