Port Vale manager Bruno Ribeiro has expressed an interest in bringing former Nottingham Forest and Doncaster Rovers striker Nathan Tyson to Vale Park.
The 34-year-old, who left Rovers following their relegation to League Two last season, is currently on trial with the League One side.
"I like Tyson a lot, it's the chairman's (Norman Smurthwaite) decision but I want him to stay," Ribeiro told BBC Sport.
"He's experienced and has good quality. He has something different to the other strikers we have here - he can play as a winger and can also come inside.
"We'll have to see whether we have the money or not for him."
The Portuguese boss has already signed 12 new players since taking over at the Staffordshire club in June.
