Preview: Peterborough United vs. Forest Green Rovers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Peterborough United and Forest Green Rovers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Forest Green Rovers head to Cambridgeshire to take on Peterborough United on Tuesday, looking for back-to-back League One wins for the first time this season.

Rovers sit just inside the relegation zone on goal difference after Saturday's win at home to Bolton Wanderers, meanwhile The Posh find themselves outside the playoffs after 12 games.

Grant McCann's Peterborough have not taken to League One as they would have liked after last season's relegation from the Championship, currently sitting 12 points behind the early pace-setters Plymouth Argyle.

Saturday's draw at home to Burton Albion would have been a hard one to take too, as they were expected to have no issues against the lowly Brewers, but Victor Adeboyejo's strike 15 minutes from the end rescued a point after Jonson Clarke-Harris opened the scoring for Posh straight after half time.

The result meant they have picked up seven points from their last three games, but it also left Posh with just two wins in their last seven league fixtures.

From a statistical view, Peterborough have not been bad at home, with just one defeat at the Weston Homes Stadium and Adeboyejo's goal was only the second they had conceded there in six games so far.

Captain Clarke-Harris moved to nine for the season with his header against Burton, and he will be licking his lips at the prospect of playing against the second-worst defence in the division.

Rovers have conceded 25 times in League One, a total that is only beaten by Burton's 28, and have only scored a meagre 11 times.

Connor Wickham is the team's top scorer with five in the league, and he scored the only goal of the game as Forest Green beat Bolton Wanderers at the New Lawn in what was only their third win of the season.

It was a first win in five for last season's League Two champions since the 2-1 victory at home to Accrington Stanley at the beginning of September, but they were beaten by Burton in their last away game after being 2-1 ahead with just eight minutes to play before falling to a 3-2 defeat.

A win at Peterborough would take Rovers out of the bottom four, but they have not won away from home since the opening day of the campaign - a 2-1 win against Bristol Rovers.

The game on Tuesday is the first ever league meeting between the pair.

Team News

Peterborough could look to freshen things up after Saturday's draw, and may change formation in doing so.

Ronnie Edwards could come into the heart of a back three, and Harrison Burrows could replace Dan Butler at left wing-back as he is still only just returning from his lengthy injury absence, and Jack Marriott could come into the attack to add some firepower.

Ian Burchnall could look to keep his side the same from the weekend's triumph as he has no new injury concerns, but Udoka Godwin-Malife, Harry Boyes and Matty Stevens are all still sidelined.

Ex-Peterborough keeper Luke McGee will start in goal for Rovers at his old club.

Peterborough United possible starting lineup:
Bergstrom; Kent, Edwards, Knight; Ward, Taylor, Fuchs, Thompson, Burrows; Marriott, Clarke-Harris

Forest Green Rovers possible starting lineup:
McGee; Cargill, Moore-Taylor, Marques; O'Keefe, Hendry, Stevenson, Brown, McAllister; Little, Wickham

We say: Peterborough United 3-1 Forest Green Rovers

Peterborough should have too much for Forest Green to contend with, as the visitors just have not been good enough on the road this season.
