Perth Glory ease to first victory

Perth Glory recover from back-to-back defeats by beating Adelaide United 3-1 to move off the bottom of the A-League.

Perth Glory have moved off the bottom of the A-League after claiming a 3-1 victory over Adelaide United.

Back-to-back defeats to start the season ensured Perth were at the foot of the standings heading into their third game of the campaign, but goals from Sidnei Sciola, Guyon Fernandez and Diego Castro were enough to relieve the pressure on Kenny Lowe's side.

Chances were difficult to come by as the defences dominated for much of the first half, but Adelaide were guilty of wasting a decent opportunity when Mate Dugandzic's miscued effort was blocked in the danger zone by Marc Warren's vital challenge.

Perth started to look more dangerous as the half-time interval approached and they broke the deadlock when Gyorgy Sandor's inch-perfect through ball released Sciola, who kept his composure to slot past Eugene Galekovic.

The hosts dominated proceedings after the interval to push the visiting defence back before doubling their advantage when Fernandez collected a pass from Richard Garcia before finding the space to curl home an emphatic finish from the edge of the box.

A vital third goal arrived with 18 minutes of normal time remaining as the influential Garcia drifted out wide to deliver an inviting cross which Castro converted at the back post.

Adelaide managed to pull a goal back when Dugandzic's dangerous ball into the box was inadvertently sent into the net by Perth defender Diogo Ferreira, but the hosts defended well in the closing stages to ensure there was no late fightback from the away side, who slip down to ninth with two points from three games.
