Oldham Athletic manager Lee Johnson says that he expects striker Matt Smith to leave the club after he rejected an improved contract offer.

Oldham Athletic manager Lee Johnson has said that he expects striker Matt Smith to leave the club after he rejected an improved contract offer.

The 23-year-old helped the League One outfit reach the fifth round of this season's FA Cup, scoring four times in ties against Liverpool and Everton.

Johnson believes that Smith will leave Boundary Park to join a Championship club.

"Matt has received a number of offers," he told Oldham's official website.

"I have no doubt he will be at a Championship club next season."

Smith has scored 14 goals in 75 games for Oldham since joining the club in 2011.
