Jack Warner extradition proceedings underway

A representative of the Trinidad state confirms that extradition proceedings against shamed former FIFA chief Jack Warner "will go ahead".

Extradition proceedings against former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner are underway, a Trinidad Attorney General chief has revealed.

The 72-year-old was among more than a dozen officials involved in the initial corruption scandal that engulfed world football's governing body earlier this year.

A case concerning the future of Warner has been adjourned until Friday due to a dispute over a legal deadline.

However, James Lewis QC, who is representing the Trinidad state during the case, told BBC Sport: "The Attorney General has signed an Authority to Proceed so the extradition proceedings will go ahead.

"The Magistrate will give a decision on Friday whether [Mr. Warner] should be discharged and immediately re-arrested under the ATP or simply remanded to the next date under the ATP without a formal discharge."

The latest development in the ongoing FIFA scandal came last week when secretary general Jerome Valcke was placed on leave over allegations of corruption regarding 2014 World Cup ticket sales.
