Fulham have reportedly lodged a £15m bid for Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle.
Gayle was the Magpies' top scorer as they won the Championship title and secured automatic promotion to the Premier League last season, netting 23 goals despite struggling with injuries at times throughout the campaign.
However, Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is understood to be open to the idea of selling Gayle, which has prompted Fulham to make their move.
PA reports that the Magpies value Gayle at closer to £20m, although they could be willing to meet Fulham in the middle in order to get a deal done before Thursday's transfer deadline.
Newcastle have already signed Joselu from Stoke City this summer, but they are unwilling to finalise any exit for Gayle until they have another replacement lined up.
The North-East outfit have been linked with a move for Liverpool striker Divock Origi, who has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield.
