Daryl Janmaat puzzled by Netherlands snub

Daryl Janmaats says that he has no idea why he was omitted from Guus Hiddink's last Netherlands squad.

Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat has admitted that he is puzzled as to why he was left out of the last Netherlands squad.

The 25-year-old made five appearances as the Oranje finished third at the World Cup under Louis van Gaal, but Janmaat has found himself out of favour with replacement coach Guus Hiddink, who omitted him from his last squad.

The right-back made a costly error in the 2-1 Euro 2016 qualifying defeat to Czech Republic in September.

"I'm not sure I can understand it," he told reporters. "He has not told me, because actually it is not explained to me why I was not there in the national set up anymore."

Janmaat left Dutch football to join the Magpies from Feyenoord in July, and has started all 17 of United's Premier League games this season.
