Middlesbrough put three past 10-man Nottingham Forest

Middlesbrough extend their unbeaten home run after beating 10-man Nottingham Forest 3-0.

Middlesbrough have extended their unbeaten home run to nine games this afternoon after beating 10-man Nottingham Forest 3-0.

The game's first chance went Boro's way, with Kike showing great feet before being denied by Karl Darlow.

It was an encouraging opening but aside from the early chance, the first 20 minutes of the match saw little by way of goalscoring opportunities.

Nottingham Forest finally made a few chances for themselves, as Chris Burke's deflected shot went just over the crossbar before Michail Antonio came inches away from meeting Ben Osborn's corner.

Darlow then produced a couple of fine saves to deny George Friend just before the break.

Friend eventually found a way past the keeper after the restart, however, when his header from a Grant Leadbitter corner looped into the net.

Robert Tesche then ran at the Middlesbrough defence as Forest looked for an equaliser but his low shot went wide of the left-hand post.

Forest's task of getting back in the game looked difficult and things went from bad to worse for them as Kelvin Wilson was shown a second yellow card for a challenge from behind on Patrick Bamford.

Substitute Jelle Vossen doubled Middlesbrough's lead with a neat finish on 79 minutes before Leadbitter sealed the win with a penalty in the dying moments of the game.
