Marseille 0-1 Toulouse

Aymen Abdennour scored the winner as Toulouse recorded a 1-0 win over Marseille on Saturday.

Aymen Abdennour scored the only goal of the game as Toulouse recorded a 1-0 win over Marseille on Saturday.

It was Marseille who fashioned the first chance of the match and it fell to Cesar Azpilicueta after six minutes, but the defender's effort from outside the box just drifted wide of the post.

Toulouse twice went close to opening the scoring after 12 minutes, but Etienne Capoue's effort drifted wide before Emmanuel Riviere struck over from inside the area.

Marseille took control in the latter stages of the half, however, with Morgan Amalfitano twice going close with shots from outside the area, before Andre Ayew saw a strike blocked.

In an eventful half of football, Aymen Abdennour headed wide for the away side on the 30-minute mark, before Brandao brought the best out of Ali Ahamada after 33 minutes.

Jordan Ayew passed up a golden opportunity to hand Marseille the lead after 57 minutes, but he struck over the crossbar when it looked easier to score.

It was the away side who opened the scoring and it came after 66 minutes when Abdennour headed a Etienne Didot corner into the net.

Amalfitano passed up Marseille's best chance of the second period when he could only find the gloves of Ahamada after 72 minutes.

The home side passed up another chance to level the tie after 83 minutes, but Brandao's header just missed the post.

Marseille remain in eighth, while Toulouse have moved into fifth.
