Roma have reportedly ended their interest in centre-back Chris Smalling after failing to reach an agreement with Manchester United.
The Englishman starred on loan at the Stadio Olimpico last season and Roma have made no secret of their desire to re-sign him.
However, after weeks of negotiations between the two clubs, The Independent reports that a transfer is now no longer likely to go through.
United upped their asking price for Smalling to £16.3m, which is supposedly out of Roma's price range.
The Serie A club asked about the possibility of another loan deal, it is claimed, but the Red Devils are only looking to sell the 30-year-old.
Smalling has spent nine years at Old Trafford, making more than 300 appearances for United in that time.
