Manchester United have reportedly raised their asking price for central defender Chris Smalling.
The 30-year-old was believed to be on the verge of securing a return to Roma on a permanent deal, with a recent report claiming that an agreement between the two clubs had been reached.
However, according to Calciomercato, United have now raised their asking price from £13.6m to £16.3m, placing the deal in doubt ahead of Monday's transfer deadline.
Smalling excelled during a loan spell in Rome last season and has not been involved for the Red Devils during the 2020-21 campaign amid the speculation surrounding his future.
The former Fulham youngster, who has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2022, has made 323 appearances for the 20-time English champions in all competitions.
Inter Milan have also recently been credited with an interest in his services.
