Manchester United will make a final call on Mason Greenwood's future by the end of May, according to a report.

Manchester United will reportedly make a final call on Mason Greenwood's future by the end of May.

Having been informed that he had no future at the club last summer, the Red Devils academy product made the move to Getafe on loan, and he has impressed for the Spanish outfit during the 2023-24 campaign.

Greenwood has scored seven goals and registered five assists in 25 appearances for Getafe, including five goals and five assists in 22 outings in Spain's top flight.

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are both said to be keen to sign the 22-year-old on a permanent basis this summer, while Getafe president Angel Torres has claimed that the forward wants to spend "another year" at his club.

Man United's new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe has suggested that there could be a route for Greenwood back into the first-team set-up at Old Trafford, with the British billionaire insisting that he will look at "the real facts" before making a final decision.

A recent report claimed that Greenwood has 'no great desire' to return to Man United, as he does not believe that the club provided him with sufficient support during his case.

However, it has also been claimed that the forward would reject the chance to join Barcelona in order to return to Old Trafford this summer.

According to The Sun, Man United will decide by the end of May whether it is possible for Greenwood to return to the club for the 2024-25 campaign.

The report claims that Ratcliffe has made the situation 'a priority', and there is believed to be a 50% chance that the forward will be back at Old Trafford this summer.

At the start of 2022, following accusations from a woman, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The forward was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the case against him was dropped last February, allowing him to resume his career during the 2023-24 campaign.

Greenwood has scored 35 goals and registered 12 assists in 129 matches for Man United in all competitions, and he has a contract with the club until the end of next season.

The Red Devils allegedly made the decision to bring the forward back into their squad last summer but were then forced into a U-turn due to the public backlash.
