Manchester United are reportedly unwilling to allow defender Chris Smalling to join Roma for anything less than £25m.

Manchester United reportedly have no intention of allowing Chris Smalling to join Roma for a cut-price fee.

While United gave permission for Smalling to spend the campaign on loan at Stadio Olimpico, Roma do not possess the option to sign the centre-back on a permanent deal.

With the Englishman having starred for the Italian giants over the past five months, there is a desire from the club and the 30-year-old to continue their partnership in the long term.

However, The Sun claims that United are insisting that Roma meet their £25m valuation in order to bring a positive end to negotiations.

The report suggests that Roma have so far only offered a fee of £13m, strengthened by £3.5m should a number of add-ons be activated.

Unless United change their stance, discussions will likely continue into the second half of the campaign ahead of a potential agreement in the summer.
