Manchester United 'consider David Luiz swoop'

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho could move for Chelsea centre-back David Luiz during the January transfer window, according to a report.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho could reportedly move for Chelsea's unsettled defender David Luiz during the January transfer window.

United will be without the services of key centre-back Eric Bailly for the next two to three months as the Ivorian international prepares to undergo surgery on his damaged ankle.

Marcos Rojo is also currently on the sidelines with a head injury, while concerns over Phil Jones's ability to stay fit for an extended period have led to suggestions that Mourinho could dip into the transfer market for a defender next month.

According to the Daily Star, Mourinho is closely monitoring developments with Luiz, who has not represented Chelsea in the Premier League since the end of October.

Luiz is rumoured to have had a disagreement with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte over tactics, although his current absence from the team is being put down to ongoing issues with his knees.

Luiz re-joined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2016 after spending two seasons in France.
