A report claims that David de Gea is holding out for better terms from Manchester United before putting pen to paper on a contract extension.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is reportedly not close to agreeing a new contract, despite Jose Mourinho suggesting that he expects fresh terms to be agreed soon.

Mourinho played down speculation of an Old Trafford exit for the Spaniard by hinting last week that talks over a new deal are underway.

According to the Daily Record, however, no agreement is in place for De Gea to commit his future to United beyond the end of next year when his current deal expires, although it is understood that the Red Devils can extend that by a further 12 months.

De Gea, named in the PFA Team of the Year in five of the last six seasons, is said to be holding out for a contract that will put him on par with big earners Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez.

United have nine other senior players on deals that expire at the end of this season, with Ander Herrera among those expected to be tied down in the coming weeks.
