Luke Chadwick: 'Jadon Sancho could reach Cristiano Ronaldo level at Man United'

Former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick believes that Jadon Sancho has the potential to emulate some of the club's greatest ever players if he joins this summer.

Former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick has told Sports Mole that Jadon Sancho could go on to emulate the likes of George Best, Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo if he joins the club.

The Red Devils have been persistently linked with the 20-year-old throughout the transfer window so far but are yet to meet Borussia Dortmund's £108m asking price with Monday's deadline fast approaching.

Chadwick, who won the Premier League during his time at Old Trafford, admits that Sancho alone would not be enough for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to close the gap on champions Liverpool, but believes that his arrival would help to quell the growing frustration among fans at a lack of transfer activity.

The 39-year-old is confident that the England international would be a huge success at the club too, claiming that he has the potential to be held in the same esteem as some of United's greatest ever players.

"I think for the club to really compete it probably needs more than one signing - I think it's going to take two, three, four signings for the club to really compete. I think Jadon Sancho would be a huge signing," Chadwick told Sports Mole.

"It might be that they've got gifted players in that position, but Jadon Sancho is a talent that doesn't come along very often - an English player, plays in wide areas, looks like a Manchester United player from years gone by.

"You think of George Best, Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo - you'd put him, not at the moment but potentially in the future, of a similar ilk to those players. He'd really appease the fans that are obviously getting deeply frustrated at this moment in time about the lack of activity.

"I don't know enough about the top end and the running of a club to know why things aren't going to plan, but they're certainly not at the moment."

Donny van de Beek is the only player signed by Manchester United so far this summer, although they have also been heavily linked with a move for Alex Telles.
