Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata on a free transfer.

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has reportedly emerged as a surprise transfer target for Brighton & Hove Albion.

Mata has spent the last five-and-a-half campaigns at Old Trafford, but the Spaniard's contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

A return to his homeland appears likely, but according to The Mirror, Brighton are ready to offer the playmaker a chance to remain in the Premier League.

The report claims that the Seagulls are prepared to hand Mata a two-year contract now that the club have secured their place in the top flight for another 12 months.

Mata has made just 15 starts for United in the Premier League this season, with a further six outings coming from the bench.
