Salomon Rondon on target as West Bromwich Albion beat 10-man Manchester United

Salomon Rondon scores the winner as West Bromwich Albion edge out 10-man Manchester United in Sunday afternoon's Premier League game at The Hawthorns.

Manchester United's winning streak came to an end this afternoon as the 10-man Red Devils were beaten 1-0 at West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.

United, who had won their last four games in all competitions, saw plenty of the ball early on and tested Ben Foster inside three minutes when Anthony Martial dipped a 20-yarder on target.

The hosts gradually grew into the game and worked the United backline with a succession of set-piece situations before referee Mike Dean made a big call to send Juan Mata off in the 26th minute.

Two minutes after being booked for encroachment, the Spanish playmaker recklessly kicked former United man Darren Fletcher and Dean brandished yellow, then red to leave the visitors a man light for over an hour of the match.

Moments later West Brom almost took the lead in stunning fashion when Craig Dawson tried his luck from about 30 yards with a dipping volley that beat David de Gea but not the far post.

Stephane Sessegnon's low strike was the only work that De Gea had to do in the opening period as United started to sit back more and more following Mata's dismissal.

Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford both had half-chances in the early stages of the second half, but West Brom then took the lead in the 66th minute through their in-form Venezuelan striker.

Substitute Sebastien Pocognoli fired over a cross from the left and Salomon Rondon had time to take a touch in the area before firing past De Gea into the corner for his fourth goal in six league games.

The remainder of the match went by with neither side able to create much, with West Brom winning for the third time in four league games and climbing up to 11th in the table.

United stay sixth and miss the chance to move back level on points with Manchester City in fourth.
