Swansea City come from behind to beat Manchester United

Swansea City come from behind to beat Manchester United 2-1 thanks to goals from Andre Ayew and Bafetimbi Gomis in the Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium.

Two goals in the space of six minutes have seen Swansea City come from behind to end Manchester United's unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 victory in the Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium.

The visitors started brightly and had two good chances to take the lead inside the first three minutes, first when Lukasz Fabianski got down well to save Memphis Depay's free kick, before Juan Mata could not find the target after being teed up by Wayne Rooney.

Mata wasted an even better chance midway through the half when Ander Herrera, making his first Premier League start of the season, fed his fellow Spaniard, but the former Chelsea man dragged wide from a good position.

The home side did not make the most of period of first-half dominance when Bafetimbi Gomis and Gylfi Sigurdsson fired wide and Jonjo Shelvey could not find the net with a volley from distance after Sergio Romero's poor kick fell to the midfielder.

Rooney failed to beat Fabianski with a chip as Louis van Gaal's side regrouped and Herrera fired wide from distance as the sides went into the interval level, but the visitors took the lead shortly after the restart.

Mata made up for his earlier misses when Luke Shaw's ball somehow found its way through to him, slamming the ball into the roof of the net for his 50th goal in English football.

Fabianski saved Ashley Williams from slicing into his own net minutes later before the Pole also prevented Mata adding to his tally, but just after the hour mark Garry Monk's side found an equaliser.

Sigurdsson's floated cross into the centre of the United penalty area was met by Andre Ayew, and the Ghanaian headed powerfully past Romero to become the first Premier League player to score against Van Gaal's side this season.

Within five minutes a remarkable turnaround was complete when Ayew turned provider by threading a superb ball around the Red Devils' defence for Gomis to convert his fourth goal of the season.

United struggled to create a good opportunity to salvage a point until just two minutes from time when only a magnificent piece of defending from Williams denied Rooney an almost certain leveller as Swansea held on to continue their unbeaten run and consign the visitors to a first defeat of the season.
