Xavi admits he would have chosen to play for Manchester United or Liverpool

Barcelona legend Xavi reveals that he would have considered playing for Manchester United or Liverpool earlier in his career.

Barcelona legend Xavi has revealed that he would have been open to signing for Manchester United or Liverpool during his time at the Camp Nou.

The 35-year-old made the move to Al Sadd in the summer after ending a trophy-laden 24-year spell with the Catalan giants.

Xavi's playing career is reaching its closing stages, but the midfielder has admitted that he would have been tempted by United or their arch rivals Liverpool.

"To be honest, the Premier League is a big attraction for any player," Xavi told Eurosport. "It's brilliant - the stadiums, the pitches, the fans and how they live football over there. It's all incredible over there.

"There are many great sides like Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool. If I had to select one, it would have to be a club with a great history - maybe Manchester United or Liverpool.

"I know that there are clubs who have emerged quite recently, like Manchester City for example, but United is my favourite historically speaking."

Xavi won eight La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies during his time at Barcelona.
