Manchester United face fight over Marouane Fellaini surgery

Manchester United clash with Belgium medical staff over the best way to treat Marouane Fellaini's injury, refusing to sanction surgery that would rule him out for 10 weeks.

Manchester United are reportedly at loggerheads with Belgium over how best to treat Marouane Fellaini's wrist injury, with national team doctors advising immediate surgery.

Fellaini has been playing with a protective cast over his wrist in recent weeks, with United deciding that a corrective operation is not necessary at this stage.

Belgium medical staff are thought to disagree with this stance and want the procedure carried out soon to avoid any danger of his World Cup preparations being affected, according to The Mirror.

United are unwilling to budge over their decision to let Fellaini play through the pain barrier, particularly with Michael Carrick sidelined until after Christmas with an Achilles problem.

The 25-year-old will reportedly face 10 weeks on the sidelines when his wrist is eventually repaired, but could still choose to have a more minor operation as a short-term fix that rules him out for around a month.
